And since this is all actually over – the Ukrainian people will win out to the oligarchs who pushed for this economic blockade, and the continued rule by Russia (and there’s no reason to believe it will end every way) – this is the one thing Putin can’t seem to win here. Instead, he’ll just have to ignore Ukraine’s democratic reforms by funneling his wealth through Russia instead of turning Ukraine into an important partner for Western interests (which it certainly is with political corruption still taking place in Kiev and elsewhere).
